My name is Nicholas Byrd, I go by Nick. I grew up in the small town of Thomaston, GA. I am the middle child, I have a younger sister & an older brother. I was raised in a split household. My Mom & Andy (Step-Dad) are the ones who mainly raised me. My Dad never came into my life until around the age of 3-4. Don’t get me wrong my childhood was not bad at all really. I just blamed my parents for growing up in two different environments. It was like a tug of war between parents. Fast forward a little bit. I was never around any drugs or alcohol until I reached middle school. And I just wanted to be accepted by my friends. So I started smoking weed, then alcohol came with going to parties. When I got to High School I was smoking pot every day and using ecstasy pills on the weekends, and then cocaine came along. I would really start to be rebellious and running back and forth between my Mom’s house and my Dad’s. So I started using and partying more and more. I ended up moving out of my Mom’s, getting a job with JM Clayton Co. where I would spend the next 15 years in addiction to cocaine, pain pills, drinking and whoring around. I was a fully functional drug addict building a life without God, and Him telling me I needed Him. I would finally meet my wife and she has always been there and tried to help me. God would go as far as giving us our baby girl, Oakleigh Rae Byrd to show me that I needed God in my life. Because I was not living right. Fast forward to Father’s Day 2024 – June 16th. I have been strung out on meth and drinking and doing suboxone. My wife and I were fussing and fighting. My father in law held me at gunpoint and after I drove off I was arrested on several felony charges along with misdemeanors and stayed the next few months in jail. While in jail my wife and I would get evicted and we would lose everything we had built. I would get out and go back to jail 3 more times. Nobody wanted anything to do with me. So I turned to God and started praying more. And God landed me here at this amazing place in Davisboro, Georgia called Mighty Man Ministry. Here the leadership and Mr. Gary have really helped God change my life & give me my sobriety back. This has been a spiritual renewal process. I will always be thankful for this transformation. It was the best thing to ever happen to me. I now have the choice to go back home to my family and be the best example I can be and lead my family to God. I have faith that God is with me every step of the way. Thank you guys for saving my life.
